Congressman Boren Helps UKB ReceiveEarmark Funding
The United Keetoowah Band of Cherokeereceived Congressional Earmarks totaling$1,050,760 for three tribal programs Lighthorse,Domestic Violence Prevention, and Indian ReservationRoads. Congressman Dan Boren helped theUnited Keetoowah Band of Cherokee obtain thefunding for these three critical areas.
The awards are through the Departmentof Justice and Federal Highways and are invitationonly type grants. The tribe is in the processthis summer of completing the grant applicationsthrough our grants department and should bemoving to implementation by Fiscal Year 09. TheRoad project is designated to improve the WestWillis Road leading to the Keetoowah CherokeeCommunity Services Complex. The COPS grantwill assist the tribal Lighthorse in improving theTechnological Capacity of the Department. TheDomestic Violence Prevention will be used in theFamily Services Department to assist with victimsof domestic violence.
